Aug 16th 1851
At a meeting of the Brethren in Cooperation at Fairview, Shenandoah County, Va. August 16th 1851 at which time and place the messengers of the different congregations met, when Joseph Rhodes the Moderator called the meeting to order & Isaac Hite Secretary prayer by Elder J. J. Jackson. After the proceedings of the former cooperation had been read, the brethren unanimously agreed to rescind the resolution relative to the committee of vigilance. The brethren then proceeded to receive Bro. D. Hunter the messenger appointed by the general meeting -- unanimously received.
The brethren then proceeded to receive the reports from the different congregations,
Bro. J. J. Jackson, H. W. Huffman, & J. Evans of Narrow Passage reported that they numbered 41 & in perfect order.
A. Crabill and H. P. Bader of Zion reported that they numbered 30 & in order.
Wm. Barr & J. Barr reported that the congregation at the Mash (sic) numbered 22 & in order.
Brother Rhodes, Hotsenpiller, & Seagar reported that the congregation at Fairview number 38 & in order.
I. R. Hite reported that the congregation at Union Forge Meeting House number 12 & in order.
The brethren from Mount Jackson presented themselves to be received into the cooperation and stated that they numbered 11 members in good order. they say that they wish to act in union with the brethren in cooperation. The committee report that they are of opinion that the congregation at Mount Jackson be received. (Committee Martin F. Miley, Jos. Rhodes, S. Miley, N. M. Hoffman.)
The committee will state that the messengers form Walnut Spring proposed on the part of the congregation that they are willing to forgive all they have seen amiss in the brethren and asked forgiveness on the part of the brethren and requested the cooperation or any congregation to rescind any resolutions that may have been adopted affecting said congregation. The committee have thought proper to reject the application and advise them to make an effort to have a proper settlement of difficulties.
The Brethren from New Providence made application to be received into cooperation stated that they were organized. Elders are Brother Shambaugh and Little. Number of members 39. The Messengers stated their congregation have unanimously declared against the body know as the faction and any person or persons connected with it. Brother Little declared that he believes that the fact of his not carrying out the Laws of the Lord in his official capacity was the cause of the division of the Walnut Spring Congregation.
The different individual congregations reported to cooperation through their messengers that they could not under present circumstances fraternize or fellowship the congregation worshipping at Walnut Springs nor any individual member belonging to said congregation, nor any individual who does fraternize or fellowship said congregation.
A motion being made to continue paying the the (sic) funds as heretofore the the (sic) general treasury.
A motion being made whether the proceedings of this meeting be published or no and adopted.
A motion being made and adopted whether it be optionary with the Secretary and moderator to publish these proceedings.
A motion being made to hold the next cooperation at Zion and adopted.
resolved to adjourn.
